England will present the Denmark team with a shirt bearing Christian Eriksen’s name signed by all the players before kick-off in Wednesday night’s European Championship semi-final at Wembley.
The dramatic episode during the first half of Denmark’s opening group game against Finland, in which Eriksen received life-saving treatment after a cardiac arrest, has become a motif of Euro 2020 and a motivating factor in Denmark’s progression to the last four.
England captain Harry Kane and full-back Kieran Trippier were both team-mates of Eriksen’s at Tottenham Hotspur and, along with the rest of the football community, were shocked at his sudden collapse.
Eriksen is now out of hospital and recovering from the ordeal. Trippier has messaged his former team-mate and hopes for a full recovery.
“We were on the coach, before the Croatia game,” Trippier said on Monday about his recollections of Eriksen’s collapse.
“We saw it on the screens. Yeah… It’s just good to see him. It’s just important that he is here with us. He’s getting better, he’s making progress.
“It’s just hard to put into words because I’ve played with him; I was close with Christian.
“The most important thing is he is getting better. I messaged him. I didn’t do it straight away, I messaged him through social media. It’s private what he said. This is the time to give him privacy, with his family and his children. We just want him to make progress in his recovery.”
