Manchester United face a difficult Champions League group after being drawn against last season’s finalists Paris Saint-Germain, German side RB Leipzig and Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir.
As champions of England, Liverpool were seeded in pot one and theoretically faced an easier draw than United, Manchester City, and Chelsea who were in pot two.
The Reds’ group is not entirely straightforward, however, with ties against 2019 semi-finalists Ajax and Italian goal machines Atalanta, although they should be far stronger than Danish side FC Midtjylland.
Chelsea and City will be relatively pleased with their groups although there are some potential banana skins. Frank Lampard’s Blues face Europa League winners Sevilla, Russian side Krasnodar and Rennes while Pep Guardiola’s City will play Porto, Olympiakos and Marseille.
In the most eye-catching group elsewhere, Lionel Messi will face his old foe Cristiano Ronaldo when Barcelona take on Juventus.
