Shock results aplenty, but equally as many headaches for Fantasy Premier League managers. Amidst an unrelenting fixture schedule, you could be forgiven for thinking Gameweeks 22 and 23 have blurred into one.
Ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action, however, there are a number of big calls which need to be made, including replacements for the suspended David Luiz and Bernd Leno, both of whom were sent off in Arsenal’s defeat to Wolves.
That’s before injuries to Harry Kane and Kevin De Bruyne are taken into account, two of the most common picks who are once again ruled out for Tottenham and Manchester City respectively.
Manchester United’s blossoming front line go a long way towards making up for it, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side bouncing back from defeat to Sheffield United and a stalemate against Arsenal by mauling Southampton by a painfully familiar 9-0 scoreline.
Excluding Jan Bednarek’s own goal, United had seven different goalscorers. The Southampton defender managed to record -7 points with that mishap compounded by a late red card – commiserations if he was underpinning your back line this week.
Here are i‘s five picks for Gameweek 23.
Lukasz Fabianski (West Ham)
West Ham are still looking to make up ground on the top four as they face Fulham and while David Moyes has received the bulk of the credit for turning them into the season’s surprise package, Lukasz Fabianski has played his part too.
Only five goalkeepers have accrued more FPL points than the Polish international, who has kept six clean sheets.

Son Heung-min (Tottenham)
Uncertainty surrounds the timeframe of Kane’s return, but in the meantime, Son Heung-min will lead the line against West Bromwich Albion. While the South Korean hasn’t scored in his last five appearances in all competitions, he faces comfortably the worst defence in the league this season.
Sam Allardyce’s side have conceded a quite incredible 52 goals already – that’s 15 more than their nearest rivals for that unwanted honour, Crystal Palace.
Price: £9.7m Points: 143
Thiago Silva (Chelsea)
Thomas Tuchel has not been afraid to experiment in the early part of his reign. Thiago Silva is one of the few seemingly guaranteed a start as one of Chelsea’s back three.
Eight of the Blues’ nine clean sheets this season have come with the Brazilian at the heart of their defence and he’s also chipped in at the other end with two goals.
Price: £5.6m Points: 76
Ruben Dias (Man City)
Manchester City would have smelled blood just a matter of weeks ago, but even if talk of Liverpool’s attacking crisis has abated, the Reds must still get past Ruben Dias.
The 23-year-old has drawn comparisons with Virgil van Dijk, such has been his impact on Pep Guardiola’s defence and he is the third-highest scoring defender in FPL this season. In fact, only Andy Robertson and Aaron Cresswell have picked up more points.
Price: £6.1m Points: 97
James Justin (Leicester)
James Justin is already being spoken about as a possible dark horse for England’s Euro 2021 squad and he might be more confident of his inclusion were Gareth Southgate not already overwhelmed with options at right-back.
Ahead of their trip to Wolves, the 22-year-old has helped Leicester to keep seven clean sheets, while he’s also created four ‘big chances’ and registered an assist.
Price: £5.1m Points: 92
