Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they are liaising with Leyton Orient after footage appeared to show Harry Winks being spat at ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly between the two clubs.
The alleged incident took place as the midfielder exited the team bus and made his way into the Breyer Group Stadium ahead of a 1-1 draw.
Winks started the game, in which 17-year-old Dane Scarlett opened the scoring, before the League Two side hit back through Ruel Sotiriou in the 72nd minute.
Putting to one side the kind of ‘fan’ that does this to someone who has tried his hardest for us since he was 5, this is assault and a serious criminal offence, especially in a pandemic.

The friendly was new manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s first match in charge of the north Londoners and was played to raise funds for the Justin Edinburgh Foundation, the former Leyton Orient manager and Spurs left-back who suffered a cardiac arrest in 2019.
