Laurent Koscielny injury: Will Arsenal captain play against Southampton?

Laurent Koscielny has only just returned to first-team football after suffering a torn Achilles – and there were fears on Thursday night he could be set for another spell on the sidelines.

The Arsenal captain grimaced as he was replaced after an hour by Sokratis during a regulation 3-0 win over BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

Nevertheless, Arsenal fans will be optimistic following comments from manager Unai Emery at full-time.

‘Precaution’

It is understood the knock Koscielny sustained was on the opposite leg to the Achilles he damaged last year and Emery said he was only replaced as a “precaution”.

“I think it’s a precaution,” Emery said. “I hope he can be okay Sunday. It is muscular, it’s only a precaution because he was starting to feel not good.”

Arsenal face two winnable games in the next six days with Southampton visiting the Emirates on Sunday and Bournemouth next Wednesday before two pivotal fixtures against Big Six rivals Tottenham and Manchester United.
