Europa League draw: Play-off round fixtures, dates and who Tottenham, Celtic and Rangers face

Tottenham will face Israeli side Maccabi Haifa in the final round of Europa League qualifying after beating Shkendija 3-1 on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho’s side led from the off in Skopje thanks to Erik Lamela’s fifth-minute opener. The hosts levelled early in the second half, only for Son Heung-min and Harry Kane to fire Spurs to victory late on.

Rangers, who beat Dutch side Willem II 4-0 in their third-round qualifier, face a tricky tie against Turkish giants Galatasaray at Ibrox on 1 October.

And Celtic, must travel to Sarajevo for their final qualifier after Mohamed Elyounoussi’s late winner earned them a 1-0 result in Riga.

Irish side Dundalk will play Faroese outfit KÍ.

2nd qualifying round reaction

By James Mariner

Steven Gerrard praised the impact of Alfredo Morelos after the Colombian’s double inspired Rangers’ 5-0 rout of Lincoln Red Imps in this second qualifying round tie but stopped short of comparing the striker with Gers great Ally McCoist.

The 24-year-old is closing on the club’s European scoring record after passing 20 continental strikes following this rout in Gibraltar, to move one behind McCoist’s.

Ibrox manager Gerrard, however, pointed out that the difference between the pair can be counted in honours, with McCoist topping Gers’ current marksman by 20 medals to nil. “Alfredo is a top striker and an incredible finisher,” Gerrard said. “You see that especially with the second goal, but the first is just as good.

“But there’s a big difference between Alfredo and Ally and it’s that Ally won trophies here. He was successful here, we can’t talk about those two in the same breath, not yet.”

Gerrard’s team were on red alert for an upset after Red Imps stunned Celtic at the Victoria Stadium four years ago, but Gers safely negotiated their way to a trip to Holland next week, where they will face Willem II.

James Tavernier and Connor Goldson had the visitors two up by the break, before Morelos netted either side of a Jermain Defoe strike.

Elsewhere, Aberdeen won 2-0 in Norway against Viking, Ross McCrorie scoring just before the interval and Ryan Hedges adding a second direct from a corner.

Coleraine came back from two down to draw 2-2 with Motherwell before losing 3-0 in the shoot-out.
Goals in either half from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Hakan Calhanoglu gave AC Milan, the seven-time European champions, a 2-0 win at Shamrock Rovers. There was better news for compatriots Dundalk, who beat Inter Club d’Escaldes 1-0, David McMillan scoring in Andorra. Linfield lost 1-0 at home to Floriana, Matias Garcia scoring for the Maltese before Ross Larkin was sent-off.

Connah’s Quay Nomads failed to make the third round for the first time after losing 1-0 at home to Dinamo Tbilisi, Giorgi Gabedava scoring a penalty late in added time.

Fellow Welsh Premier League side Bala Town also went out, losing 2-0 at Standard Liege after goals from Felipe Avenatti and Selim Amallah. Chris Venables missed a penalty for the visitors.
