Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted at his frustration with Scott McTominay as Manchester United were twice pegged back in a 2-2 draw at the King Power.
United wasted some good opportunities in front of goal but were equally lax at the back and could have conceded several more on top of Harvey Barnes’ first-half strike and Jamie Vardy’s late deflected shot which nabbed the point.
There were three United errors leading to that first goal, with Harry Maguire putting Bruno Fernandes under pressure with a sloppy pass, and the Portuguese playmaker then giving the ball away too easily. But it was McTominay’s lack of effort in closing down Barnes which his manager highlighted.
The midfielder had been the star of the show in United’s 6-2 thrashing of Leeds last week but allowed Barnes to gather the ball from James Maddison and take three touches while facing United’s box before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot past David de Gea.
“We’re disappointed that we didn’t win because we had loads of big chances and could have finished it off,” Solskjaer told BT Sport.
“Both goals should have been closed down quicker. First one definitely, second one as well down the side we should have managed to stop the cross.
“You always look at the goals we conceded to see if we should or could have done better.”
Vardy’s late strike, with Luke Shaw and Fred responsible for failing to stop Ayoze Perez’s aforementioned cross, means Leicester stay in second with United one point back in third but with a game in hand.
Solskjaer added: “One point is not the worst result but we’re disappointed we didn’t get away with three because we played against a very good side here.”
