England squad: The full line-up for World Cup 2022 qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland

Ollie Watkins and Sam Johnstone have both earned their first England call-ups as Gareth Southgate named his squad for the start of the World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.

The Three Lions will face San Marino, Albania and Poland at the end of the month, starting at Wembley on 24 March.

Aston Villa forward Watkins has impressed in his first season in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals since joining from Brentford.

West Brom’s Johnstone is a benficiary of an injury to Jordan Pickford, with Nick Pope expected to be given a chance to stake his claim on the No 1 spot.

Elsewhere, Jesse Lingard, Luke Shaw and John Stones have been rewarded with recalls thanks to their strong club form this season.

Jude Bellingham is also included following fears that Borussia Dortmund would block his call up if the 17-year-old was forced to spend two weeks in quarantine on his return to Germany.

There are some notable omissions, however, including Liverpool and Manchester United’s full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well as Leeds United’s in-form forward Patrick Bamford.
