Diogo Jota will miss Liverpool‘s remaining three games of the season after sustaining a foot injury during Thursday’s 4-2 win over Manchester United.
The 24-year-old scored Liverpool’s equaliser against Old Trafford for his 13th goal of the campaign but was replaced by Sadio Mane for the final 15 minutes.
Although Jota has had an encouraging debut campaign at Anfield, he has struggled with injury problems, missing three months of the season due to a knee problem before returning to fitness in March.
“No good thing without a bad thing – so, we won at Manchester United but Diogo got something with the bone,” Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports before the game against West Brom.
“Not too serious but serious enough to end the season. That’s it.”
Jota’s absence meant that Mane was restored to Klopp’s starting XI after snubbing his manager after the final whistle at Old Trafford in midweek.
Klopp downplayed Mane’s reaction during his pre-match press conference on Friday, saying: “I cannot make a bigger story of it as it is.
“Football is an emotional game and everyone expects from us to control our emotions always but it doesn’t work out always, that’s the case.
“It happened to me as a player, it happened to other players when I was their coach. Do you want these things to happen? No. But it’s not the first time in my life and I’m afraid to say it won’t be the last time.
“If somebody shows me five million times respect and one time not, what is then more important? If you had seen me as a player what I did out of emotion it was insane – and I’m a completely normal guy but it happened to me.
“We will talk about it, then it will be sorted. That’s all.”
