Kevin De Bruyne left his first Champions League final tears forming in his bruised eye after he lasted just an hour in Porto.
The talismanic midfielder collided with Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger in the second half in a challenge that left both men on the floor.
Rudiger was treated by Chelsea’s medical team but did make it back to his feet apparently no worse off albeit a little groggy and having picked up a yellow card for his trouble.
De Bruyne though was far slower to rise having taken a heavy blow to the face. After several minutes being assessed by the physios, he was helped to his feet by defender Ruben Dias but it was clear he would not be resuming.
The Belgian midfielder was visibly upset, consoled by Dias and Phil Foden as he began to leave the field with his left eye already starting to swell up and bruise.
He was embraced by Pep Guardiola on the touchline as well as a whole host of coaches and appeared tearful as he spoke to them and was replaced by Gabriel Jesus.
More to follow.
