MOLINEUX — Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed he will wait as long as he can before ruling Harry Maguire out of the Europa League final on Wednesday.
But he says all the signs are that the England defender will not play.
Maguire remains a major doubt for the game against Villarreal in Gdansk after suffering a injury in the recent game with Aston Villa.
He has now missed four games with an ankle ligament injury.
Solskjaer said: “Of course he wants to play, it’s going to be up to the doctor to say if he’s ready.
“I don’t expect him to play, it doesn’t look great.
“I’m forever the optimist, I’m still hopeful. He has to train on Tuesday when we’re over there if he is to play.
“It’s not many days, I don’t expect him to be ready. I hope the final gives our players the hunger for more.”
United’s 2-1 win at Molineux with a young side means they have gone the entire season unbeaten away from home.
They are only the fourth side to remain unbeaten away from home across an entire English top-flight season, after Preston (1888-89), Arsenal (2001-02) and Arsenal again (2003-04).
Solskjaer added: “You’ll see some of these players in the future.
“It was a game in the spirit of Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby that we have given young players a chance.
“It’s a terrific achievement to get through a whole season without any defeats away from home.”
