Manchester United have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Borussia Dortmund over the signing of England international forward Jadon Sancho.
The completion of the deal is subject to Sancho agreeing personal terms, which isn’t expected to be a problem, and a medical to be conducted after England’s Euro 2020 campaign has finished.
It has been reported that United will pay a transfer fee in the region of £73m for the 21-year-old and that he will sign a five-year contract until the end of the 2025-26 season.
A club statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
“The signing is subject to contractual terms and a medical, which will be completed after Jadon’s involvement in the UEFA European Championship.”
Sancho joined Dortmund in an £8m deal from Manchester City in 2017 and went on to make 137 appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring 50 goals.
He leaves Dortmund as a German Cup winner after scoring twice and assisting Erling Haaland during a 4-1 win against RB Leipzig in the final in May in what was his last appearance in their colours.
City are expected to receive a €13m [£11.1m] payment due to a sell-on clause in Sancho’s Dortmund contract once the transfer has officially been completed.
Selected by Gareth Southgate for England’s Euro 2020 squad, Sancho has cut a frustrated figure at the tournament having featured for only six minutes as a substitute against the Czech Republic so far.
Nevertheless, his arrival at Old Trafford will be viewed as a significant statement of intent from last season’s Premier League runners-up.
