Unai Emery agrees with Mesut Ozil that Arsenal played “sexy football” as they powered to a 3-1 win against Leicester City.
Along with Hector Bellerin, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, Ozil was one of the stars of the show as the Gunners came back from 1-0 down to clinch their 10th win on the bounce in all competitions. Ozil nabbed Arsenal’s equaliser with a sidefooted effort past Kasper Schmeichel on the stroke of half time, this before he was heavily involved in their second goal and assisted Aubameyang directly for Arsenal’s third of the evening.
That last goal in particular has won widespread acclaim, with Ozil helping to execute the perfect lock-pick passing move ahead of Aubameyang’s neat finish. Afterwards he tweeted: “I think we played some sexy football tonight. Proud captain of this team and this club!”

When asked if he was in agreement about the sexiness of Arsenal’s football in his post-match press conference, Emery said: “Yeah. I am happy with every player. Each player is giving us quality. We are demanding a lot of variety and from Ozil it was a good performance. We will keep pushing and demanding from him.”
Commitment, quality, consistency
Emery has rotated the captain’s armband this term having named Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka his five main deputies at the beginning of the season. Asked whether he would be tempted to make Ozil captain every week, he said: “We have been very clear with our captains.
“I think he can play every match with this commitment, with this quality, whether he is captain or not captain. Every match each player needs to play with this commitment, with this quality to help us on the pitch.”
Pressed on Ozil’s improved form this campaign and the feeling that he is happier and more settled at the club, Emery was diplomatic. “It’s important we can speak in the dressing room,” he said.
“We want to enjoy it, but we are working. If you want to win you need to work, and you need to be together. With our quality we can enjoy it, [but] we need to enjoy the work.”
