Manchester United’s thrilling FA Cup victory over Liverpool on Sunday was the final proof for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that his team have no reason to feel inferior to either them or Manchester City any longer.
It’s all part of United putting together the pieces of the jigsaw that they hope will seem them crowned Premier League winners in May.
“A game like Sunday can be pivotal,” says the United boss.
“We’ve shown in the two Liverpool games and the two games with City that we are competitive when we play on our own terms.

“We have won a few of these games before by tweaking the system or changing things to suit just one game.
“I want to get to a place where we can go into them and feel competitive and we have done. That has been a big step forward.”
United, for whom Marcus Rashford is available after tweaking his knee against Liverpool, take on bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United at Old Trafford tonight fully expecting to pick up three more points to maintain their strong position.
But Solskjaer is demanding the same humility and work hard here as if they were playing one of their biggest rivals.
He adds: “I’ve been part of a team that has won leagues by making sure you perform to the best of your ability every game. It doesn’t matter who you are playing against.”
