Gareth Southgate will announce his 26-man England squad for Euro 2020 on Tuesday following the conclusion of the Premier League season at the weekend.
The main selection dilemma facing Southgate appears to be whether to include Liverpool right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, following his surprise omission from the squad for the international fixtures in March.
Alexander-Arnold faces competition for his place from Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, Chelsea’s Reece James and Kieran Trippier, who won the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid.
Southgate also has a few injury issues to contend with too with doubts over Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips and Nick Pope’s availability for the tournament.
Uefa’s decision to increase the squad size from 23 to 26 may give Southgate the option to name one or two wildcard options in his squad, such as Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated 17-year-old Jude Bellingham.
Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins will also be hoping to receive a call-up following impressive debut seasons in the top-flight with their respective clubs.
