Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo says he has been watching a video of his team’s worst display of the season on repeat in preparation for Monday’s Black Country Derby, while warning of further injury set-backs to his squad.
The Portuguese watched his side lose 4-0 to Burnley eight days ago and has been analysing the game in forensic detail since then.
Nuno accepts the effect of Covid on his side this season may have been a factor – with as many as 10 Wolves players possibly affected at some point.
But that has not stopped him re-viewing a video of the Burnley game “many times”.
“The way you work always has to be the same,” said Nuno.
“When the game goes well, I don’t know how many times I see it again. When the game doesn’t go so well, I can assure you that I go and see it over and over again, many, many times, to really try to find where and why it happened so we can rectify it.
“I’ve seen this one more times than I usually do.
“If you want to be involved in sport, you have to be prepared for all the circumstances. Not everything is good moments.”
Nuno says he has discussed the Burnley defeat with his players.
“We lose 4-0 at home. We don’t play a good game, offensively, you don’t do anything. Defensively we are so poor. Of course the question has to be raised,” he said.
“We make these questions among ourselves. It all starts from here. I got good answers from the players.
“When you have a bad result, you know after a couple of days why this happened and move forward. The answers come after.
“You don’t ask questions when you are grieving and upset, you ask questions when your mind is clear, when you have assumed your own responsibilities. Then you move forward.”
But Nuno also hinted at more injury worries ahead of the Hawthorns clash against relegation-threatened West Brom.
“We have many problems that, unfortunately, are happening to us,” he added.
“The squad list will reflect the issues we have. To say who it is affected would be an advantage to our opponent.”
Wolves predicted team (3-5-2): Rui Patricio; Saiss, Coady, Boly; Traore, Gibbs-White, Neves, Dendoncker, Ait-Nouri; Fabio Silva, Willian Jose
