Marcus Rashford injury: Erik ten Hag admits it ‘doesn’t look good’ as Man Utd star limps off in Everton win

Erik ten Hag admitted Marcus Rashford’s injury “doesn’t look good” after the in-form attacker limped off after appearing to pull up in the latter stages of Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Everton.

Goals from Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial, the latter assisted by Rashford, ensured a comfortable afternoon for the Red Devils and strengthened their hold on the top four in the process.

However, it was a victory that may have come at a considerable cost as Rashford trudged off looking forlorn in the 81st minute, with a suspected groin issue. He was replaced by Wout Weghorst for the final few minutes.

After the game, Ten Hag took aim at football’s stakeholders over this season’s relentless fixture schedule, saying that they are failing to “protect” players from injuries.

“We have to wait [on Rashford’s injury], it doesn’t look good,” Ten Hag told BT Sport. “Once again it’s due to the schedule, you can’t play three games in six days. We have to protect our players.

“Everyone wants the best players on the pitch, everyone wants to see great entertaining football like today. But you need your best players. It’s a win and we have to move on.”

Rashford has enjoyed the best campaign of his career, scoring 28 goals in 46 appearances for his club, as well as impressing for England at the World Cup in Qatar.

As well as jostling for a position in the top four, United are also competing in the latter stages of the Europa League and FA Cup with fixtures against Sevilla and Brighton to come this month.
