Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester this summer after a 13-year stay in which he won the 2015-16 Premier League title and the 2020-21 FA Cup.
Vardy will leave the King Power as one of the club’s greatest-ever players, its third-highest top scorer ever in almost 500 games and a Premier League legend.
The 38-year-old did not play in the top flight until he was 27, joining Leicester from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1m in one of the most iconic and rapid rises in sport.
Although he has struggled for form during Leicester’s relegation this season, the club captain scored seven goals and started every league match bar two.
His contract expires at the end of this season and the club confirmed his final home game will be against Ipswich on 18 May.
He apologised to fans on social media earlier this week, writing: “No words I have can ever express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses.
“Having been at this club for so long, we’ve experienced so many highs and successes – and this season has been nothing but miserable and for me personally, a total embarrassment. It hurts, and I know you’re feeling it too.
“To the fans: I’m sorry. Sorry we haven’t performed.”
In a statement, club chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “Jamie is unique. He is a special player and an even more special person. He holds a place in the hearts of everyone connected to Leicester City, and he certainly has my deepest respect and affection.
“I am endlessly grateful for everything he has given to this football club.”
