Ivan Toney earns shock recall to England’s squad as Ben White misses out

Ivan Toney has earned a surprise recall to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

The striker swapped Brentford for Saudi Arabia last summer and has scored 29 goals in 43 appearances for Al-Ahli this season.

The move had put Toney’s England future in doubt, with the 29-year-old not picked for the previous four squads.

However, Tuchel has named the striker among his seven forwards for the June double-header against Andorra and Senegal.

Meanwhile, Phil Foden has been left out after the Manchester City star requested a period of rest.

And despite speculation Ben White could return, Tuchel has not named the Arsenal defender in his squad.

White has reportedly made himself available for Tuchel, but his three-year absence from the England fold continues after he was not picked for the second squad of the German’s reign.

England face Andorra in Barcelona for a World Cup qualifier on 7 June before playing a friendly against Senegal at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on 10 June.

Tuchel has named a strong squad despite concerns some players including Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer face a busy summer ahead.

The Club World Cup starts four days later in the United States, with Chelsea and Manchester City competing in the 32-team tournament, so too Kane’s Bayern Munich and Bellingham’s Real Madrid.

Bellingham, Kane and Palmer are among eight players in the England squad who will also be in Club World Cup action.

Tuchel also named Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Reece James and Noni Madueke, and Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.

It is a first senior call-up for centre-back Chalobah, but there is no place for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi or Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.
