Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho share ‘frosty’ exchange at Manchester United training

Paul Pogba and Jose Mourinho appeared to share a heated exchange at Manchester United‘s training ground this morning.

Video footage from Carrington showed Pogba run over to Mourinho and appear to shake his hand before the manager said something to stop him in his tracks.

Pogba, with a look of indignation on his face, began to walk away as Mourinho, who appeared relatively calm, continued the verbals.

Stripped of the vice captaincy

The incident followed United’s shock defeat to Derby in the Carabao Cup and news that Pogba had been stripped of the vice captaincy.

Reports on Tuesday suggested Mourinho was incensed by Pogba’s criticism of his tactics following the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday.

While Mourinho confirmed Pogba would not be wearing the armband again, he dismissed any suggestion there had been a falling out.

“The only truth is that I made the decision for Paul not to be the second captain any more,” Mourinho said. “But no fallout. No problems at all. The same person that decides Paul is not second captain anymore was exactly the same person that decides that Paul was the second captain — myself.

“I am the manager, I can make these decisions, just one decision that I don’t have to explain.”

Nevertheless, the video has done little to quell the feeling their relationship is more fraught than ever as rumours of a transfer to Barcelona gather pace.
