Michel Platini has been arrested as part of an investigation into alleged corruption over the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, according to reports in France.
The former France captain, who served as president of Uefa between 2007 and 2015, was detained by anti-corruption police in Nanterre, Paris, on Tuesday morning, according to Mediaset.
Sophie Dion, a former advisor to President Nicolas Sarkozy, was also arrested while Claude Gueant, former secretary general of the Elysee, was questioned as a “free suspect”, according to newspaper Le Monde.
