After the England men’s team stormed through the 2018 World Cup in Russia, defying expectations and progressing further in the tournament than they had done for years, this summer sees the Women’s team looking for similar success.
The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off on Friday 7 June in Paris.
A Lionesses’ victory wouldn’t be as great a shock though; the team are currently ranked third in the world, and having won the SheBelieves Cup for the first time in March, they’re one of the favourites to take home the trophy.
But don’t count out Scotland, the other home nation who’ve qualified for 2019’s tournament in France.
Though the Scots are positioned at a more modest 20th place in FIFA’s rankings, they’ll be looking to put up a fight in their first World Cup.
In fact, their debut fixture is England vs Scotland in Nice.
