It was delight for Chelsea, Manchester United and Aston Villa and disaster for Leicester and Watford on the final day of the Premier League season.
Frank Lampard’s men beat Wolves 2-0 to finish in the top four thanks to two goals on the stroke of half-time from Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud.
The Blues will be joined in the Champions League next season by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who beat Leicester 2-0 through Bruno Fernandes’ second-half penalty and a late goal from Jesse Lingard.
Premier League results
Arsenal 3-2 Watford
Burnley 1-2 Brighton
Chelsea 2-0 Wolves
Crystal Palace 1-1 Spurs
Everton 1-3 Bournemouth
Leicester 0-2 Man Utd
Man City 0-5 Norwich
Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool
Southampton 3-1 Sheff Utd
West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa
At the other end of the table, Aston Villa clung on to a draw at West Ham to condemn Watford to relegation to the Championship.
The Hornets capitulated to a 3-0 deficit at Arsenal before goals from Troy Deeney and Danny Welbeck gave them a glimmer of hope. Ultimately, a 3-2 defeat means they will join Bournemouth in the second-tier next season.
Elsewhere, Tottenham drew 1-1 at Crystal Palace to leapfrog Wolves and secure a place in the Europa League.
Table
Arsenal 3-2 Watford
Watford’s five-year stay in the Premier League ended as they were relegated following defeat at Arsenal.
The Hornets knew their fate was out of their hands heading into the game at the Emirates Stadium and, despite rallying after slipping three goals behind, they ultimately fell to a 3-2 loss.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit a first-half brace either side of Kieran Tierney’s first Arsenal goal – but Mikel Arteta’s side will have to be better than this showing if they are to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final next week.
Troy Deeney’s penalty reduced the arrears before the break and former Arsenal man Danny Welbeck pulled another back – but, with Aston Villa drawing at West Ham and Bournemouth beating Everton – Watford finished 19th.

What they needed from final day…
Champions League: Chelsea had to match Leicester’s result to make the Champions League. United could finish in top four if they avoided defeat, or if they and Chelsea both lost. Leicester needed to better Chelsea’s result to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Europa League: Spurs had to better Wolves’ result to make the top six. Lose and they need Chelsea to win the FA Cup final next Saturday to ensure seventh becomes a Europa spot. Wolves needed to match Spurs’ result to qualify.
Relegation: Watford needed to better Aston Villa’s result to stay up (and win by two more goals, if both win). If both lost, then Bournemouth could stay up with a win. Villa needed to match Watford’s result to stay up, unless both lost, in which case Villa must match Watford’s losing margin and would also have needed Bournemouth to fail to win.
