Exactly 368 days after it started, the 2019-20 Championship season will finally come to an end at Wembley.
The Championship play-off final has thrown up some classic matches down the years – who can forget Charlton vs Sunderland in 1998 – as well as more cagey affairs, like Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Derby County last term.
This year’s edition will see one of Brentford, Cardiff City, Fulham or surprise package Swansea City join already promoted Leeds United and West Brom in the Premier League.
Here’s all you need to know ahead of the 2019-20 Championship play-off final.
When is the final?
The Championship play-off final will be played on Tuesday 4 August at 7.45pm (BST).
Where will it be held?
Although no fans will be in attendance, the game will be played at Wembley Stadium.
Who will be in it?
Brentford are the only one of the four teams to have not played in the Premier League before and they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion to West Brom by two points.
Momentum is often pinpointed as a key factor behind play-off success and Brentford boss Thomas Frank will be concerned that his side has lost three games in a row, including the semi-final first leg to Swansea.
Fulham were promoted via the play-offs in 2018 and although they suffered relegation from the Premier League the following season, they have a good chance of making an immediate return.
Scott Parker’s side beat Cardiff City 2-0 away in their semi-final first leg thanks to two spectacular goals from Joshua Onomah and Neeskens Kebano. Cardiff boss Neil Harris acknowledged the result was a “kick in the nuts.”
Swansea made a remarkable late dash into the top six, taking the place of Nottingham Forest with a five-goal swing in the final 20 minutes of the regular Championship season.
Stuart Cooper’s team lead Brentford 1-0 from the first leg after a spectacular strike from Andre Ayew but the Bees will have Rico Henry available for the return after his ban for a red card at the Liberty was overturned.
What channel is it on?
The game will be shown live on Sky Sports Football and Sky Sports Main Event.
Odds for promotion (via Sky Bet)
Fulham – 10/11
Brentford – 9/4
Swansea – 7/2
Cardiff – 33/1
