The 2021 Carabao Cup final has been moved from its traditional February slot to April in the hope that supporters will be able to attend.
The coronavirus pandemic means fans have been absent from most football for nearly a year and, with cases back on the rise, the EFL’s hopes of having even a half-full Wembley look optimistic.
The EFL said in a December statement: “It is the objective of the League to stage the final with as many supporters in attendance as possible and the decision has therefore been taken to move the final from its original date of Sunday 28 February 2021 to later in the year.
“The number of fans permitted will be dependent on Government guidance in place at the time and it is hoped that moving the date to later in the year will give clubs and their fans the best opportunity to attend in person.”

Manchester City will be looking to win the competition for a record-equalling fourth consecutive year, although they must first overcome rivals Manchester United in the last four.
The last team was to win the League Cup four times in a row was the all-conquering Liverpool side in the early 1980s.
The other semi-final pits Championship high-flyers Brentford against a Spurs side who are seeking a first piece of silverware since winning this cup 13 years ago.
“If we can get through to the Final, it will give us a big boost in confidence for the rest of the season,” Harry Kane told the EFL. “This is the aim of the club and the manager, it’s down to us to go and get the job done.
“Semi-finals are always big games no matter what competition it’s in. It’s an opportunity to play in a final and a win means we can be one step closer to winning a trophy.
“People may think we should cruise through the game, but it won’t be like that. Brentford are a very good team who beat a Premier League team [Newcastle United] in the quarter-finals.”
