Lee Collins: Yeovil Town captain dies aged 32, club confirms

Yeovil Town club captain Lee Collins has died at the age of 32, the club today confirmed.

The club were due to face Altrincham in the National League tomorrow but that game has been postponed in light of Collins’ passing.

“All at Yeovil Town Football Club are mourning the loss of club captain Lee Collins,” a club statement read on Thursday.

“Lee sadly passed away yesterday and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

“We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this time.

“The club will make no further comment.”

Collins joined the club in June 2019 shortly after Yeovil were relegated to the National League with manager Darren Sarll saying his “experience and leadership will make him a big part of this squad”. He subsequently made 31 appereances in all competitions as Yeovil finished fourth in the shortened season but were knocked out of the playoffs by Barnet.

Before joining Yeovil, Collins played for a number of different Football League clubs, many of whom paid their own tribute to him after the news of his death broke.

“Shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our former defender and captain,” wrote John Radford, owner of Mansfield Town, where Collins spent two years between 2015 and 2017.

“A no-nonsense, battling braveheart on the field and a gentleman off it. A man who always gave his all in Stags’ colours. We’ll be observing a minute’s silence tomorrow in Lee’s memory.”
