The BBC apologised for its coverage of Wales‘ second group match against Turkey at Euro 2020 as fans experienced countless issues with the picture and sound.
In the first half, the commentary team of Steve Wilson and Robbie Savage were suddenly replaced with Bill Leslie and Don Goodman, who are generally associated with Sky Sports’ EFL coverage.
Footage of the game repeatedly blurred and the coverage was then limited to just one camera.
The live feed was being provided by the Uefa host and while it was out of BBC One’s control, they acknowledged the “technical issues affecting the coverage”.
“These pictures come from Uefa’s headquarters, they control the feed and obviously there’s a technical issue,” Gabby Logan explained at half-time.
Fortunately, Wales’ opening goal was unaffected as Aaron Ramsey latched onto a superb ball over the top from Gareth Bale to bury his chance – and make up for the two opportunities he’d already missed.
Bale had been the architect of another breakthrough minutes earlier, only for the forward to be stopped in his tracks by a well-timed tackle from Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu.
Daniel James was almost as influential, continually testing Mehmet Zeki Celik in one-on-one situations.
At the other end, Joe Morrell had kept Wales in it with a goalline clearance from a set piece.
Those moments were repeatedly interrupted, of course, with many fans complaining about the technical problems.
