Euro 2020 Golden Boot race: Standings, odds and predictions with Ronaldo two clear of Lukaku and Schick

Before Euro 2020 kicked off, it was the usual suspects being tipped for the Golden Boot and while some of the favourites have hit the ground running, others have endured a slow start to the tournament.

Harry Kane was originally the man to beat according to the bookies, but he has plummeted down the pecking order after failing to score in his opening three matches.

The England captain has struggled to get into his goalscoring groove thus far, but the same cannot be said of Cristiano Ronaldo who is two clear in the golden boot race after scoring five times already.

Ronaldo also has an assist to his name which could be a decisive factor if one or more of the chasing pack manage to catch up with him.

One man who has burst onto the scene is Patrik Schick, the Czech Republic star who scored a brilliant double – a header and a 50-yard screamer – against Scotland and followed that up with a penalty against Croatia.

Schick was not exactly a household name before the Euros, but he is now being talked about as a genuine contender for one of the highest individual accolades on offer.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 8-11

Ronaldo will be difficult to catch, particularly if Portugal manage to progress to the latter stages. Of his five goals so far, three have come via the penalty spot.

Romelu Lukaku – 5-1

Lukaku got off to a flying start, netting twice as Belgium thrashed Russia 3-0 in their opening game and added his third of the competition against Finland after having an effort controversially ruled offside.

Karim Benzema – 12-1

Benzema is three behind his old Real Madrid teammate but it is a testament to his goalscoring prowess that he is the third-favourite to clinch the golden boot. Both of his goals came against Portugal.

Ciro Immobile – 16-1

Immobile scored in Italy’s opening two matches against Turkey and Switzerland before being rested in the dead rubber with Wales. Will be eager to regain lost ground in the knockouts.

Memphis Depay – 16-1

A possible dark horse given the Netherlands appear to be on the more favourable side of the draw. Depay has scored twice and provided two assists so far.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 18-1

Wijnaldum plays in a much more advanced position for his country than he did at his previous club at Liverpool and it apparently suits him given he has scored three times.

Kylian Mbappe – 20-1

Mbappe is yet to score at the tournament but still features prominently in the bookies odds with France expected to progress beyond Switzerland in the last 16.

Patrik Schick – 20-1

Schick’s odds have drifted since a goalless display against England but his three goals in as many games is a record not to be sniffed at. The Bayer Leverkusen frontman has scored all of the Czech Republic’s goals.
