Tottenham have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo and his coaching team after just four months in the job following Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Nuno succeeded Jose Mourinho as Spurs boss at the end of June, bringing to an end a 72-day managerial search during which the club missed out on a host of higher-profile candidates, including Antonio Conte, Erik Ten Hag and popular former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The 47-year-old made a promising start at Spurs, winning his first three Premier League matches and earning the manager of the month award for August, but results and performances since have been poor with this weekend’s loss proving to be the final straw. In total, Nuno won eight, drew two and lost seven of his 17 matches in charge.
Fabio Paratici, Tottenham’s managing director of football, said in a statement: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.
“Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”
The club will now begin the process of appointing his successor with the out-of-work Conte once more linked with the vacant post.
