The penultimate Fantasy Premier League round is upon us and in keeping with a fixture-packed second half of this season, it is a double gameweek.
They are usually something of a novelty in FPL, but not this year with plenty (arguably too many) popping up at various points throughout the campaign.
On the plus side, the sheer volume of double gameweeks has helped FPL bosses rack up some monstrous triple-digit scores; on the downside, most engaged teams look pretty much the same with managers loading up on players with twice as many matches as others.
Still, there are low-owned differentials to be found if you look hard enough – or peruse this helpful article in search of some pre-deadline inspiration.
Brighton, who along with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are one of four teams playing twice in Gameweek 37, are a great place to start with Roberto De Zerbi drip-feeding some exciting young prospects into his side with next season in mind.

*There is one fixture to go – Newcastle vs Brighton on Thursday 18 May
City are another given they could well have the Premier League title wrapped up by Sunday when they play Chelsea in their first fixture of two. With a potential treble on the line, Pep Guardiola may decide to rest some of his big-hitters (including Erling Haaland) in the league and hand other members of his squad opportunities to play.
Here is this week’s team ahead of the 11am Saturday deadline:
Gameweek 37 fixtures
Saturday 20 May
- Spurs vs Brentford
- Bournemouth vs Man Utd
- Fulham vs Crystal Palace
- Liverpool vs Aston Villa
- Wolves vs Everton
- Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal
Sunday 21 May
- West Ham vs Leeds
- Brighton vs Southampton
- Man City vs Chelsea
Monday 22 May
- Newcastle vs Leicester
Wednesday 24 May
- Brighton vs Man City
Thursday 25 May
- Man Utd vs Chelsea
Alisson (Liverpool)
There’s little point in making a goalkeeper transfer at this stage of the season. Unless Kepa Arrizabalaga happens to be your No 1, in which case you should probably get rid after his benching at Bournemouth.
Having maxed out our Brighton, Manchester City and Manchester United squad allocations, we’ve plumped for Alisson between the sticks with red-hot Liverpool facing Aston Villa and Southampton in their last two games.
Price: £5.4m Points: 160 Gameweek 37 fixture: Aston Villa (h)
Pervis Estupinan (Brighton)
Not all FPL heroes wear capes. Pervis Estupinan was the undisputed starboy of Gameweek 36 after miraculously earning his top score of the season away at Arsenal of all places.
The Ecuadorian earned a colossal 17 points as Brighton trampled all over the Gunners’ Premier League title dreams by completing the defender’s holy trinity of a goal, an assist and a clean sheet.
If you don’t own Estupinan yet it’s not too late as Brighton’s fixtures are probably even better this week, with relegated Southampton and a potentially under-strength City both visiting the Amex.
Price: £4.9m Points: 123 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Southampton (h), Man City (h)
Luke Shaw (Man Utd)
Raphael Varane’s return to fitness meant that Luke Shaw shuffled across to his favoured position at left-back against Wolves and he unsurprisingly looked far better as an FPL asset as a result.
Shaw created two chances and had an expected goal involvement (xGi) of 0.27, which was his highest tally since United’s 3-0 win over Leicester back in Gameweek 24, as well as collecting three bonus points.
With United looking miserly at the back and Shaw’s positional change giving him a greater license to get forward, defensive and attacking returns could be forthcoming this week.
Price: £5.2m Points: 114 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Bournemouth (a), Chelsea (h)
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Liverpool’s newest midfielder can do no wrong. A supremely satisfying free-kick against Leicester continued Trent Alexander-Arnold’s barnstorming end to the season and further cemented his position as FPL’s undisputed heavyweight defender.
Since Gameweek 30, Alexander-Arnold has scored one goal, registered six assists and kept three clean sheets in eight games. His points total of 55 is 18 better than any other defender over that period.
Price: £7.7m Points: 151 Gameweek 37 fixture: Aston Villa (h)
Ilkay Gundogan (Man City)
Pressure is clearly an alien concept to Ilkay Gundogan, the unheralded Manchester City superstar who routinely delivers when there are medals on the line.
Gundogan scored twice as City overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Aston Villa and pip Liverpool to the title on the final day last season and netted another brace to all but end Arsenal’s title hopes at Goodison Park last weekend.
Following back-to-back doubles against Leeds and Everton, Gundogan is unsurprisingly the most-bought player in FPL this week.
Price: £7.4m Points: 130 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Chelsea (h), Brighton (a)
Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd)
With doubts over Marcus Rashford’s fitness, Bruno Fernandes is the obvious pick from Manchester United’s midfield for their pair of fixtures against Bournemouth and Chelsea.
FPL bosses who already have Fernandes in their teams have been extremely unfortunate to have not got more points out of him over the past few weeks.
Since Gameweek 30, Fernandes has had the second-highest number of shots (27) but scored just once and created the most chances (32) yet registered only two assists. A big score is coming.
Price: £9.4m Points: 155 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Bournemouth (a), Chelsea (h)
Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton)
We toyed with selecting Pascal Gross who has produced two goals and an assist in his previous three league games and Facundo Buonanotte given he is the most natural Solly March replacement in De Zerbi’s squad.
But it seems unlikely that either of them will feature more prominently during Brighton’s double gameweek than Kaoru Mitoma, and so reluctantly (given we’ve picked him virtually every week of late), the twinkle-toed winger makes the cut again.
Although Mitoma blanked at the Emirates, he was sensational and gave Ben White the runaround. Mitoma vs Kyle Walker could be an individual battle for the ages.
Price: £5.7m Points: 128 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Southampton (h), Man City (h)
Phil Foden (Man City)
It seems unlikely that Phil Foden will start in the Champions League final – should City get there – considering Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish have snaffled those wide forward slots in the big games, and by that same logic, he may be on the bench for the FA Cup final too.
It seems likely therefore, that the bulk of Foden’s minutes in the final few weeks are likely to come in the league. Foden played the full 90 minutes in City’s last two league games and has managed a goal and an assist across his previous three outings.
Price: £8m Points: 128 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Chelsea (h), Brighton (a)
Antony (Man Utd)
Antony has had an up-and-down first year in English football but has produced some encouraging displays in recent weeks, including during the 2-0 win against Wolves last Saturday.
The Brazilian served the ball up on a plate to Anthony Martial to score the game’s opening goal and went close to adding his name to the scoresheet on numerous occasions, firing off six efforts on goal.
If Rashford is ruled out of one or both of United’s matches, Antony could be an ideal replacement given his low ownership and improving form.
Price: £7.3m Points: 78 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Bournemouth (a), Chelsea (h)
Julio Enciso (Brighton)
Brighton’s Paraguayan pocket rocket Julio Enciso looks like the next superstar off the conveyor belt after scoring a winning goal at Stamford Bridge and the crucial opener at the Emirates in the space of a few weeks.
Listed as a forward in FPL, Enciso will surely be reclassified as a midfielder next season as he has predominantly played as a No 10 or out wide for De Zerbi since breaking into the side.
Expect him to get plenty of minutes over the final few games as De Zerbi starts planning for next season.
Price: £4.6m Points: 46 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Southampton (h), Man City (h)
Erling Haaland (Man City)
Mo Salah holds the record for the most FPL points in a single season after scoring 303 in the 2017-18 season. Erling Haaland is currently 37 points behind and will need to average 12.5 points per game to topple Liverpool’s Egyptian King. It’s a tall order, but if anyone can do it it’s him.
Haaland has already bulldozed the Premier League’s top scorer record with 36 goals, but he could easily reach the 40-goal mark in the final couple of weeks.
With the Premier League title all but secured and the Golden Boot wrapped up, that might just be his next target in what has been an unbelievable debut campaign in English football.
Price: £12.4m Points: 266 Gameweek 37 fixture(s): Chelsea (h), Brighton (a)
