When is the play-off final 2023? Date, kick-off time, TV schedule for Championship, League One and League Two

A dozen teams are in the EFL play-off mix but only three will secure promotion as the Championship, League One and League Two seasons all draw to a close.

Coventry, Luton, Middlesbrough and Sunderland are vying for a place in the Premier League after securing top six finishes in the Championship amid fierce competition.

Barnsley, Bolton, Peterborough and Sheffield Wednesday are contesting the League One play-offs, while Bradford, Carlisle, Salford and Stockport are aiming for promotion from League Two.

All three finals will be played at Wembley across the final weekend in May, starting on Saturday 27 and ending on Monday 29. Extra-time and penalties will determine the winners if the scores finish level after 90 minutes.

Championship final

  • Date: Saturday 27 May
  • Kick-off: 4.45pm

League One final

  • Date: Monday 29 May
  • Kick-off: 3pm

League Two final

  • Date: Sunday 28 May
  • Kick-off: 1.30pm

Championship play-off final

  • Saturday 27 May, 4.45pm – Luton or Sunderland vs Coventry or Middlesbrough

Burnley secured an immediate return to the Premier League after just one year away with Vincent Kompany’s side losing just three times all season. Sheffield United are also back in the big time after a two-year absence.

Sunderland hold a narrow advantage in their play-off semi-final after coming from behind to beat Luton 2-1 at the Stadium of Light with Manchester United loanee Amad Diallo scoring a stunning free-kick.

Coventry and Middlesbrough played out a goalless draw in the other semi-final first leg.

League One play-off final

  • Monday 29 May, 3pm – Peterborough or Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton or Barnsley

Plymouth Argyle stormed to the League One title with 101 points, while Ipswich Town will join them in the Championship after pipping Sheffield Wednesday to second place.

Peterborough finished 19 points behind the Owls in the table but are firm favourites to reach Wembley after thrashing them 4-0 in the first leg of their semi-final at the Weston Homes Stadium.

The other first leg was far less one-sided as Bolton and Barnsley drew 1-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium.

League Two final

  • Sunday 28 May, 1.30pm – Bradford or Carlisle vs Salford or Stockport

Leyton Orient secured pole position in League Two with Stevenage and Northampton Town following them into League One after finishing in the automatic promotion spots.

Salford earned a narrow 1-0 win over Stockport County in the first meeting between the two with Matt Smith scoring the only goal.

Bradford host Carlisle at Valley Parade in their opening semi-final on Saturday evening.
