Tiago Pinto rules himself out of vacant Tottenham job as Daniel Levy left short of options

Tiago Pinto is out of the running to be Tottenham Hotspur‘s next director of football after pledging his immediate future to AS Roma, i understands.

Spurs have carried out a restructure of staff after Ange Postecoglou‘s appointment and have held talks with several candidates about their director of football role, including the highly-rated Pinto – who has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs this summer.

But i understands the Portuguese executive will now stay in Italy until the end of his contract next summer, ending any chance of him moving to north London to help oversee the Postecoglou revolution.

Whether Spurs will now press ahead with plans to appoint a replacement for Fabio Paratici at all is unclear, with another possible target Tim Steidten having joined West Ham as their new technical director while Tottenham consider to mull over their options.

Scott Munn will arrive as chief football officer imminently with a remit to oversee all football operations but it is chairman Daniel Levy who has once again been leading on transfer-related matters this summer, with sources indicating he has been dealing with Bayern Munich‘s interest in England forward Harry Kane directly.

Spurs have made it clear that he is not for sale despite two bids from the Bundesliga giants and plan to offer their all-time leading goalscorer a huge new contract with promises of a post-football career coaching at the club.

Munn is yet to start his role in north London and reports last month claimed that former managing director of football Paratici was helping the club on a consultancy basis during his 30-month ban from football operations.

The terms of the suspension allow him to advise clubs and it was claimed he had previously scouted Tottenham’s new goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who signed from Empoli in a £16.3m deal.

Pinto, meanwhile, remains at Roma but is negotiating with West Ham over the sale of striker Gianluca Scamacca.

A loan with an obligation to buy is on the table and there is confidence a deal can be struck with sources telling i the club are “negotiating hard” to broker the transfer.

Roma are working within strict Financial Fair Play rules and were recently fined £3m by Uefa, but they dodged more serious sanctions after the club made £100m of sales after the end of the season.

They will do so with their incumbent director of football in place but he is moving into the final 12 months of his contract.

i understands Pinto was down to the last few names for the Liverpool director of football job this summer before the Reds opted for a short-term deal with Jorg Schmadtke and also held talks with West Ham.
