British YouTube collective the Sidemen are once again putting on their charity football match – and it’s set to be the biggest one yet by far.
Last year’s game was played at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, which has a capacity of just over 27,000.
But the 2023 event will be at West Ham’s London Stadium, which can hold more than 62,000 and hosted the 2012 Olympics.
Tickets for the match have already sold out, showing the immense popularity of the YouTubers involved.
It is raising money for charities including the Campaign Against Living Miserably (Calm), Teenage Cancer Trust and Rays of Sunshine. Last year’s event raised more than £2m.
Who are the Sidemen?
The Sidemen is a British YouTube group consisting of the following creators:
- Olajide “JJ” Olatunji – known online as KSI (2013–present)
- Simon Minter – known online as Miniminter (2013–present)
- Joshua Bradley – known online as Zerkaa (2013–present)
- Tobit “Tobi” Brown – known online as Tobjizzle or TBJZL (2013–present)
- Ethan Payne – known online as Behzinga (2013–present)
- Vikram “Vik” Barn – known online as Vikkstar123 (2013–present)
- Harry Lewis – known online as Wroetoshaw or W2S (2014–present)
They have a combined YouTube subscriber base of over 138 million, and the Sidemen channel has 18.7 million subscribers.
KSI, who made his name playing Fifa but has gone on to find significant fame as a boxer, musician and founder of Prime sports drink, is the best known of the collective.
The group originates from a Rockstar Games Social Club group formed in 2013. Their content largely focuses on gaming and real-life challenges.
When is the Sidemen charity football match?
This year’s Sidemen charity match will be played on Saturday 9 September.
Sadly, it is no longer possible to buy tickets for the event directly, as they have sold out.
However, the match will be streamed live on YouTube. Last year’s event, which saw the Sidemen defeat a YouTube AllStars team 8-7, drew 2.6 million concurrent viewers and more than 18 million views in the first 24 hours.
Who will be playing in the match?
The lineup for the match is yet to be announced, but it is again set to feature a Sidemen XI against a team of YouTube AllStars.
Last year’s game featured the likes of Mr Beast, Yung Filly, JME, iShowSpeed, Chunkz and Karl Jacobs.
Zerkaa said in a statement: “This is a major milestone for us. When we first set up this event back in 2016, we never thought we’d be playing in a stadium of over 62,000 people. Not only are we able to give back to our loyal fans, but being able to raise further funds for charities that are so close to our hearts give us a lot to be proud and thankful for. We can’t wait to see all of you in September.”
