Wayne Rooney has been sacked as Birmingham City manager after less than three months in charge.
The 38-year-old was appointed in October after John Eustace was sacked over a disagreement with the club’s directors on the “the importance of implementing a winning mentality and a culture of ambition”.
The Blues were sixth in the table when Eustace left – they are now 20th.
It took replacement Rooney six weeks to secure his first victory in charge and he only managed one more during his 83-day reign.
The final straw was a 3-0 defeat to Leeds United on Monday night, after which the former England record goalscorer said he was “really disappointed” with the result.
“We all have to look at ourselves, not just myself,” Rooney said.
“As a group, we all need to look at ourselves and do everything that we can to get through this.”
