Man Utd 0-3 Liverpool (Diaz 35′, 42′, Salah 56′)
Manchester United were humiliated as Liverpool ran riot at Old Trafford on a Sunday afternoon that will pile more pressure on Erik ten Hag.
Two goals from Luis Diaz and another from Mo Salah ensured Arne Slot’s perfect start to life in the Premier League continues.
Three games, three wins and no goals conceded mean the Reds go into the international break neck-and-neck with Manchester City at the top of the table.
While Slot will be celebrating, the early season pause will be a time of introspection for his countryman in the opposite dugout.
Ten Hag’s side started the game with new defenders Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui and the forward Joshua Zirkzee all in the XI.
But it was £42m midfielder Manuel Ugarte that United missed most, with a with a trio of avoidable mistakes in the middle of the park leading to Liverpool goals.
Two of those came from Casemiro in a chastening first half for the Brazilian veteran. The first was an overly ambitious first-time pass to give the ball away with United exposed at the back.
Ryan Gravenberch intercepted, ran forward into space and, with United on their heels, fed Salah out on the right wing.
Running at full speed, Salah delivered a precise chip to the back post where Diaz nodded home with relative ease.
It was the same pair who combined for Liverpool’s second after Casemiro had inexplicably fallen over in midfield and given up possession, with Diaz this time firing Salah’s precise pass in at the front post.
Ten Hag responded by hooking Casemiro at half-time and replacing him with 20-year-old debutant Toby Collyer.
The change made little difference to the momentum of the game and another mistake from Kobbie Mainoo ended with Salah firing Liverpool’s third past Andre Onana.
