Gareth Southgate makes huge overhaul of England squad

Gareth Southgate has made a huge overhaul of his England squad with a series of fresh faces in the team.

Teenagers Mason Mount, on loan at Derby County from Chelsea and Jadon Sancho, at Borussia Dortmund, and 21-year-old Leicester City midfielder James Maddison have been included in the senior England team for the first time.

Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, who has been reduced to limited appearances this season due to injury, Ross Barkley, the Chelsea forward, and Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, who has returned from a long-term ankle problem all return to the England set-up.

It means that Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard, Adam Lallana, Fabian Delph and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all been axed, due to injury or for lack of game time at their squads, in what is the boldest squad Southgate has named during his two years as England manager. Alli, Lingard and Lallana are all injured.

Southgate’s goalkeepers and defenders have all remained the same from his previous squad announcement, but he has torn up the list of usual suspects in midfield and attack.
