Yeovil Town LFC rescued from collapse by former AFC Bournemouth owner Adam Murry

Yeovil Town Ladies Football Club has been rescued from collapse by the former owner of AFC Bournemouth, who is vowing to return the team to the top leagues of the women’s game.

Businessman Adam Murry has taken over the third tier club after previous owner Steve Allinson pleaded for a new financial backer to come forward and rescue the club because his “race was run”.

Following a story in the i talks began with Mr Murry and the deal was signed as England lost in their Women’s World Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening.

Mr Murry said: “This is a hugely exciting time for women’s football. There has never been as much interest in the women’s game and I am delighted to have been able to support the takeover. This great club has absolutely enormous potential.”

Mr Murry heads up an Elite Soccer Academy located in Tampa, Florida where women’s soccer is taken extremely seriously, and in 2008, led the rescue of AFC Bournemouth after it was placed in administration. He appointed Eddie Howe as manager when the club was rock bottom of the 4th Division on a -17 point standing, a move that kickstarted the club’s climb up the leagues to the top flight.

‘This is a great time for women’s football’

Mr Murry added: “We want to create a solid investment in the clubs structure, from the first team right through to the academies, with plans to take the club back into the higher leagues. We have selected a management team going forward, to create a solid platform and structure to build and develop on all at a higher level. This is a great time for women’s football as England’s success in the World Cup has clearly shown.”

The club has had financial difficulties this year and was relegated from the top tier of the FA WSL. It was then denied an operating licence for the Championship and will therefore play in the third tier next season.

Last month, owner Steve Allinson announced he would relinquish ownership free of charge in an attempt to find investors able to sustain the club and put it on a sound financial footing.
