Manchester United will play Chelsea and Arsenal will face Manchester City or Newcastle in the FA Cup semi-finals.
The draw for the last four was made during half-time of City’s clash with Newcastle at St James’ Park on Sunday with the visitors 1-0 up thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s goal from the penalty spot.
Defending champions City will be hoping to add more silverware to their trophy cabinet after they defeated Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final back in March.
The thirst for victory will be stronger than ever at the Etihad following Liverpool’s triumph in the Premier League but they face stiff competition in the cup with the last four comprised of teams all flying high in the top flight.
FA Cup semi-final draw
- Man Utd vs Chelsea
- Arsenal vs Man City or Newcastle
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday 18 July and Sunday 19 July at Wembley Stadium ahead of the final at the same venue on Saturday 1 August.
How the quarter-finals unfolded
Manchester United were the first team to book their place in the last four with captain Harry Maguire’s goal downing 10-man Norwich at Carrow Road.
Odion Ighalo had opened the score for the visitors only for Todd Cantwell to equalise and send the tie to extra-time.
However, Norwich centre-back Timm Klose’s red card in the closing stages of the 90 minutes had swayed the match in United’s favour and Maguire was on hand to capitalise on the hosts’ defensive frailty and sweep home the winner.
Arsenal left things late on Sunday too, with substitute Dani Ceballos scoring the winner against Sheffield United in injury-time at Bramall Lane.
Nicolas Pepe had opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Mikel Arteta’s side before a characteristic mix-up at the back allowed David McGoldrick to equalise.
Ross Barkley then came off the bench in the second game of Sunday afternoon to clinch a 1-0 win for Chelsea against a below-par Leicester City at the King Power.
