Champions League on TV tonight: How to watch the fixtures live, kick-off times and what TV channel they’re on

The Champions League returns for its final year as a 32-team competition with Arsenal, Celtic, Manchester United and Newcastle joining holders Manchester City in the group stages.

The 36-team format featuring one giant table and eight group games per team will begin from next season, so fans of the simpler eight-groups-of-four format should cherish this campaign before its consigned to history.

The 2023-24 Champions League will also be the first year TNT Sports, formerly BT Sport, broadcasts the competition in the UK.

TNT Sports will show every match, with the group stages starting on 19 September and the final pencilled in for 1 June 2024.

Treble winners City are out to defend their crown, and are favourites to do so, while Newcastle are in the Champions League for the first time since 2002-03.

Arsenal are back in this competition after five seasons of Europa League football, while Manchester United return after one year away.

Celtic have reached the group stage for a second successive year, and the Scottish champions will hope to make the knockout stages for the first time since 2012-13.

Customers can subscribe to TNT Sports through discovery+, BT, EE, Sky, and Virgin Media.

Anyone who previously had a BT Sport Monthly Pass before 18 July can use the service as normal, but discovery+ is the new streaming home for TNT Sports and replaces the BT Sport App.

TNT Sports commentators and pundits

New names will join some familiar faces as the artists formerly known as BT Sport begin their Champions League coverage in the TNT Sports era.

TNT Sports launched in July this year following Warner Bros Discovery’s acquisition of BT Sport, with the rebrand now in full swing as the broadcasters of Saturday lunchtime matches in the Premier League.

But the Champions League is the marquee event for TNT Sports, with BT having owned the rights to show every match of this competition in the UK since the 2015-16 season.

And so to ensure a smooth transition, pundits including former England trio Rio Ferdinand, Peter Crouch and Joe Cole will once more be at the forefront of TNT Sports’ coverage.

There will be a new lead presenter, however, after Jake Humphrey left BT Sport in May, with Laura Woods hosting TNT Sports’ Champions League shows.

Woods made her name at Sky Sports and recently led ITV’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup, while she recently left her talkSPORT breakfast show in anticipation of this TNT gig.

Reshmin Chowdhury returns to anchor Champions League matches, while Jules Breach will be the presenter for TNT Sports’ Europa League nights.

Beyond Ferdinand, Crouch and Cole, football pundits set to feature include Rachel Brown-Finnis, Owen Hargreaves, Steve McManaman, Joleon Lescott, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes and Robbie Savage.

The commentary team includes Darren Fletcher, Adam Summerton and Lucy Ward, with Ally McCoist among the co-commentators.
