The most open FA Cup fifth-round draw in years has produced four all-Premier League ties but guarantees one Championship team will be in the quarter-finals.
Holders Manchester United have been handed a tough draw at home to Fulham after beating Leicester last Friday thanks to a controversial added-time Harry Maguire goal.
Having beaten Marco Silva’s side twice this season, albeit 1-0 on both occasions, United will be optimistic about their chances of progressing towards a second consecutive FA Cup trophy.
Last year’s losing finalists Manchester City continue their favourable run through this year’s competition with a clash against shock package Plymouth Argyle.
Miron Muslic’s Plymouth beat Liverpool in the fourth round thanks to a Ryan Hardie penalty, but a visit to the Etihad will likely be a step too far.
Meanwhile Newcastle will have to overcome a tough match against Brighton if they are to continue their excellent domestic cup form this season.
Eddie Howe’s side are into the Carabao Cup final next month and will hope the FA Cup can provide another shot at silverware.
The only all-Championship clash is between Preston North End and Burnley, who have conceded just nine league goals in 2024-25 and will hope to use that defensive record to make a deep run.
They toppled Southampton away from home in the fourth round, keeping their sixth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.
And Bournemouth will hope to continue their stunning season by easing past a Wolves side with bigger concerns, namely avoiding top-flight relegation.
Aston Villa and Crystal Palace face second-tier opposition in Cardiff City and Millwall respectively, with both their head coaches known for cup runs in previous roles.
Four of the traditional Big Six have already been knocked out – Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham – and with the two Manchester clubs in poor form, plenty of teams should believe they have a real shot at the trophy.
