Marcus Rashford leaves door open to Barcelona transfer after Aston Villa loan

Marcus Rashford will make a decision on where his future lies permanently in the summer, with Barcelona expected to rival Aston Villa for his signature.

The Manchester United forward has arrived in the Midlands to undergo a medical with the loan deal expected to be completed on Sunday.

A £40m fee has been agreed to make the transfer permanent, The i Paper understands, with Villa agreeing to pay a substantial portion of his wages until the end of May.

Rashford, 27, did not want to join another Premier League club but found the prospect of playing in the Champions League too good an opportunity to ignore.

He has not played for United since 12 December but is excited about the opportunity to play for Villa and prove critics wrong.

Barcelona retain a strong interest in signing Rashford, though a deal was seen as too complicated in the January transfer window.

Villa’s financial situation has been hugely boosted by the sale of forward Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr for £71m.

United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear in recent weeks that Rashford was not part of his plans and a loan to Villa makes sense for all parties.

As revealed by The i Paper, United could move for a Rashford replacement before the window closes on Monday night and are exploring loan options.

They are interested in Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel, who turned down the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur but could be tempted by a move until the end of the season.
