Transfer deadline day updates: Mathys Tel wanted by Arsenal and Spurs

Deadline day is in full swing as football clubs rush to complete their business before the transfer market closes.

In the biggest story of the window so far, Marcus Rashford has joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United, who have been linked with Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.

Chelsea are focusing on outgoings rather than incomings, with Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell and Joao Felix all potentially on the move.

Elsewhere, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson has officially reunited with West Ham manager Graham Potter, with Nurnberg striker Stefanos Tzimas set to join in the summer as his replacement.

Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly has also passed a medical ahead of a move to Juventus.

Chilwell nears Chelsea exit with Palace loan

It looks like Ben Chilwell is finally going to get a chance to restart his dwindling career.

We are expecting his loan move to Crystal Palace to be completed this afternoon.

His has been a peculiar downfall: from Champions League winner and England regular to not considered good enough by Enzo Maresca before he’d played a game for him at Chelsea.

There is a brilliant player in there, hopefully Chilwell can find him again at Palace.

Kane’s honest assessment of Tel

Tottenham legend Harry Kane has given Mathys Tel his seal of approval to be a hit in north London.

“Mathys is a great young player,” he said.

“I’ve worked with him for 18 months. He has a lot of potential, works and trains hard. He can still improve, but he has the right mindset.

“My advice is wherever he goes, he should make sure he gets game time and experience.”

Man Utd make centre-back transfer decision

One area Manchester United will not look to strengthen in the final hours of the window is a centre-back.

Lisandro Martinez’s latest injury setback leaves them depleted in numbers, but Ruben Amorim feels he has adequate cover available.

Plenty of movement

Not much going on in Toonsville other than we are awaiting confirmation on Lloyd Kelly (£3m loan fee, potential £20m deal over time).

Sunderland are going to sign Liverpool’s Jayden Danns on loan, though.

I’m hearing Tommy Watson is heading to Brighton with a deal in the works for the young winger, who looks a sensational prospect. Sunderland still want a forward to come the other way…

Nkunku set to stay at Chelsea

Christopher Nkunku looks set to endure more frustration on the Chelsea bench as a loan move away from Stamford Bridge does not look like it will happen today.

Nkunku was the subject of a loan offer from Manchester United, one that was immediately rebuffed by the Blues due to the terms put forward.

Bayern Munich interest has also cooled and the France international will now assess his options in the summer.

Tel agrees to join Spurs

Mathys Tel looks to be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur after a loan deal was agreed with Bayern Munich.

The i Paper understands an agreement is in place between the two clubs but personal terms have not yet been finalised.
