There are five Premier League games on Saturday, starting with Sunderland’s trip to 18th-placed West Ham United at lunchtime.
A hat-trick of 3pm kick-offs includes Manchester City, who have won just two of their six games so far in January, hosting bottom-club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Elsewhere, the spotlight remains on Thomas Frank as his Tottenham Hotspur side travel to Burnley, while Fulham host Brighton before the late kick-off sees Bournemouth welcome Liverpool to the south coast.
There’s a big lunchtime game in the WSL with Chelsea taking on Arsenal, and a packed EFL schedule too.
Beyond football, we’ll also bring you updates of England’s must-win second ODI in Sri Lanka and the latest from the Prem rugby action.

Goal! West Ham cruising after stunner
West Ham 3-0 Sunderland
How about this! West Ham are in absolute control now…
One touch, bam, and I make that almost 30 yards out as Mateus Fernandes‘ stunning effort puts the Hammers 3-0 up!
Roefs gets a hand to it, but it’s just too powerful.
All square in the WSL
Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal
After a strong start from Arsenal, Chelsea have weathered the storm in this crunch WSL game.
There was a heart-in-mouth moment for Beth Mead when she went down clutching her ankle, but she appears to have shaken that off as this match passes the half-hour mark at Stamford Bridge.
Goal! Bowen penalty puts West Ham 2-0 up
West Ham 2-0 Sunderland
Big moment. Big goal.
Scarles is fouled inside the box and Hume can have no complaints after sticking out his leg.
Up steps captain Jarrod Bowen, whose penalty just gets past Roefs to give West Ham a commanding lead.
The beads of sweat on Forest fans grow by the minute…
England begin ODI chase
England 1-0 (Ahmed 1, Duckett 0) chasing 220 to beat Sri Lanka
With Zak Crawley out due to a back injury, Rehan Ahmed opens the batting with Ben Duckett as they start the chase in Colombo.
One over down, and Ahmed is off the mark.
Goal! West Ham break deadlock with Summerville header
West Ham 1-0 Sunderland
Ahem. As I was saying…
West Ham go on the attack and after fine work from Bowen down the right, a perfect cross is met by Crysencio Summerville, whose unstoppable header puts the Hammers ahead!
First shot. First goal. Clinical!
West Ham under pressure
West Ham 0-0 Sunderland
It’s been a decent start from the visitors at the London Stadium, with Sadiki’s strike testing Areola early doors.
West Ham just struggling for sustained spells of possession 10 minutes into this one.
This feels big for West Ham
It’s a bit of a cliche but had you asked at the start of the season which club out of Sunderland and West Ham would be in the relegation zone come January, the majority would have plumped for the Black Cats.
However, they are ninth and in this tight table are just three points off Liverpool in fourth. European football? You never know.
Meanwhile relegation is a distinct possibility for the Hammers. They are 18th and five points adrift of safety – you feel they really have to win this afternoon to keep the pressure on Nottingham Forest above them.
‘Don’t write off Arsenal just yet’
It’s second versus third in the WSL at lunchtime in the bid to catch leaders Manchester City, so that’s as good a reason as any to read our interview with Arsenal’s Katie McCabe.
She talks to The i Paper‘s Kat Lucas about a Qatar Women’s Club World Cup, Arsenal’s title hopes and marking her 10-year anniversary in north London.
England set 220 to beat Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI
After losing the opening ODI to Sri Lanka the England men’s team face a must-win match today.
They lost the toss but they are faring well against the hosts, and they have just skittled Sri Lanka out for 219.
England need 220 to win… Let’s see how that goes!
Good afternoon!
Welcome to my sporting bubble as I bid to avoid The Traitors final spoilers all afternoon and evening until I watch it after my shift. It’s going to be murder, but I’m remaining faithful.
Thankfully there’s plenty of sport to distract me, and I’ll be bringing you live updates from the Premier League and beyond as I somehow attempt to navigate social media and The i Paper‘s website without finding out what happens…
Wish me luck. And do follow the live action, starting with a big game for West Ham, a crunch WSL match, while I may even dare to check how England are doing in the cricket.
