Glenn Murray injury: Will Brighton striker be fit to face Burnley and Chelsea?

Glenn Murray scored his eighth league goal of the season, helping Brighton to victory over bitter rivals Crystal Palace.

The veteran forward could well have added to his tally if he hadn’t been forced off with an injury in the closing stages of the first half.

Seven per cent of Fantasy Premier League managers own the striker and will no doubt be fretting over his fitness given the hectic December period.

How serious is the injury?

“I fell and hurt my AC [acromioclavicular] joint,” Murray told the Argus. “Right now it’s sore but hopefully it will settle down and we will make a decision on Wednesday or Thursday.”

Despite the injury, Murray underlined his determination to feature against Burnley, joking: “We’ve already had that argument with the physios! They are withholding their judgement so we will see what it’s like when it has cooled down.”

Promisingly for Seagulls fans and FPL managers with the forward in their squad it doesn’t sound like the injury is serious.

Should I get rid of him?

Not just yet.

It sounds like Murray could miss Gameweek 16, but this by no means sounds like a long-term spell on the sidelines.

Tune into Chris Hughton’s press conference on Friday for a further update; if it sounds like a short-term problem, bench Murray for Gameweek 16, if it sounds like a long-term problem, punt him.

Potential replacements

Here are three worthy replacements for Murray should you decide to get rid:

Callum Wilson (£6.9m). Callum Wilson just won’t stop scoring. Any doubts over the Englishman’s potential to deliver against the league’s big guns will be banished following goals against Manchesters City and United. Recruit him before his price inflates dramatically.

Raul Jimenez (£6m) is an excellent option up front, available for just £6m. The Mexican has been omnipresent in Wolves’ starting lineup this season and has been a reliable source of assists and goals.

Lucas Perez (£6.2m) was afforded his first real opportunity to star for West Ham against Cardiff, taking the place of an injured Marko Arnautovic. Expect him to be play aprominent role in the coming Gameweeks.

i verdict

Don’t make any knee jerk decisions over Murray’s future just yet.

Instead wait until Hughton’s press conference on Friday before making a decision over the forward’s future.

If it sounds like Murray could be set to miss more than one Gameweek transfer in Wilson as a lethal alternative up front.
