Raheem Sterling and Danny Rose subjected to monkey noises from Montenegro fans

Gareth Southgate says England will report alleged racist abuse directed at Danny Rose during the Three Lions’ win over Montenegro on Monday night.

The Three Lions continued their perfect start to the campaign with a dominant 5-1 win but the game was overshadowed by monkey noises and other racist chanting late in the game.

“I definitely heard abuse of Danny Rose when he got booked,” Southgate told ITV.

“There’s not doubt in my mind, I know what I heard. We’ll make sure that’s reported officially.”

Tensions were clearly high as the minutes wore down with both Rose and Jordan Henderson picking up yellow cards after clashing with Montenegro players.

Raheem Sterling then cupped his ears towards the home fans after hitting the fifth and monkey chants could be heard on the television feed.

When asked if he had heard abuse of Sterling, Southgate added: “I’m not sure yet. I had a quick chat with Danny but I’ve not had a chance to chat with Raheem.

“I don’t want to speculate but I know what I heard. We’ve got to support our players.”

Speaking in the ITV studio after the game, Ian Wright said: “It’ll probably go to Uefa and they’ll fine them a pittance and we’ll probably get it again.”
