ANFIELD — Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted his side have not quite got their “rhythm” back after their first match after lockdown ended in a goalless draw with rivals Everton.
The German was, however, pleased with the performance level as Liverpool edged closer to their first Premier League title in 30 years.
Liverpool need five more points from eight games to claim the trophy, and if Manchester City lose to Burnley on Monday night they could still do so at Anfield on Wednesday when they play Crystal Palace.
“After four weeks of training sessions I was happy with the performance level,” Klopp said.
“Today was an important game. Physically we were ready for the game. Defensively we were there. I liked us offensively but you need chances and rhythm, that’s something we didn’t have, that didn’t happen. I know we can play better but the performance level was OK.”
Everton’s Tom Davies came closest to scoring when he hit the post in the second half. Asked about inching closer to the title, Klopp replied: “We don’t count like this all the time. Today I think the point is one we deserved, even if Everton had biggest chance to win the game. That was our biggest problem: we didn’t create as many chances.”
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti wants his players to push on after becoming only the third team to stop Liverpool winning in the league this season.
“The period before we played strong teams and didn’t win, now it’s time to win and try to climb the tables,” Ancelotti said.
“When we’re focused, we are a good team, we can compete.”
