Man Utd’s stance on Marcus Rashford transfer as four clubs register interest

Marcus Rashford appears closer to a Manchester United exit than ever as teams from across Europe express an interest in signing the forward on loan.

The i Paper has been told after clubs were initially sceptical, the fact United seem more open to allowing him to leave on loan in a tough January market has alerted Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan to the possibility of making a move.

There is understood to be interest from several unnamed Premier League clubs in a player who last month publicly admitted he is open to a new challenge, but European sides are the ones preparing offers as it stands. United’s preference is to send the 27-year-old overseas.

Allowing him to leave on loan can benefit United in several ways, sources said.

Getting Rashford back among the goals could see him find his best form once more, one that helped him plunder 30 goals in one season just two years ago, and return a rejuvenated United player for next term.

A more likely benefit is that if Rashford does leave on loan and succeed, it will enhance his reputation in the eyes of suitors, encouraging a more lucrative permanent sale in the summer.

United feel this strategy worked well with Jadon Sancho, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund before securing a permanent switch to Chelsea for a better fee last summer.

The club obviously prefer a straight sale to aid their ailing Profitability and Sustainability position, but senior figures are aware that in the modern market which is dominated by PSR, January is a time when loans rather than big-money moves will be the order of the day.

Just covering a large part of his wages, which will still rule out many clubs, really improves United’s financial position in the eyes of regulators, allowing them to consider the possibility of bringing players in during this window.

A wing-back and striker are understood to be Ruben Amorim’s priorities.

Talks are ongoing with representatives of several top targets, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes and Sporting Lisbon forward Viktor Gyokeres, but outgoings are essential to get any deal over the line.

Very few players are deemed unsellable by new co-owners Ineos, but several unwanted big earners are earmarked for a departure. Casemiro and Antony are two key options to raise some funds for incomings. Several Saudi Pro League clubs retain an interest in Casemiro, while a loan move for Antony is again the more feasible option.

There remains a possibility where Rashford stays put and attempts to win back his place in the first team.

He has not played a single minute since being omitted from last month’s derby win over his conduct in training and general behaviour.

Sources said there is no animosity between Rashford and Amorim, with the player working hard in training to force his way back into the Portuguese boss’s plans.

Rashford has already rejected three lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia with a move to the Middle East not appealing to the player.
