Fantasy Premier League managers will keep a close eye on Liverpool‘s game against Ipswich Town on Saturday ahead of their double gameweek next week.
Arne Slot’s league leaders host the Tractor Boys at Anfield in Gameweek 23, before back-to-back away games against Bournemouth and Everton, who also have two fixtures, in 24.
Mo Salah is comfortably the most-selected player in FPL and Trent Alexander-Arnold leads the way among defenders, but selecting a third Liverpool asset is trickier: double up in defence or attack? Perhaps that decision will become easier after this weekend’s action.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Arsenal are up against another team in relegation trouble in the shape of Wolves, while Manchester City vs Chelsea is given the prime time 5.30pm slot.
The pick of Sunday’s action sees Tottenham Hotspur take on Leicester City in the Doomsday Derby with both desperate to secure three points.
The Gameweek 23 deadline is at 1.30pm on Saturday 25 January.

Goalkeeper
The i Paper‘s three best players in GW22
- Phil Foden (Man City) – 19 points vs Ipswich: Foden continued his fine recent form by providing two goals and an assist as City thrashed Ipswich at Portman Road.
- Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest) – 12 points vs Southampton: Forest’s Mr Consistent produced the goods yet again with a goal and an assist in the win over Southampton.
- Daniel Munoz (Crystal Palace) – 6 points vs West Ham: Picked for his attacking threat, Munoz instead claimed a clean sheet as Palace shut down West Ham en route to winning a London derby.
Bart Verburggen (Brighton)
Everton broke the habit of a season by scoring three goals against Spurs last Sunday to earn David Moyes his first win in charge of the club in 12 years.
Have the Toffees rediscovered their killer instinct or were Tottenham just there for the taking? The answer may become clear over the next few weeks, but for now we’re leaning towards the latter.
Everton have scored just once in their last six away games ahead of their trip to the Amex. Bart Verburggen has kept two clean sheets in his last five games and will be confident of making it three in six against a consistently goal-shy attack.
Price: £4.5m Points: 61 Gameweek 22 fixture: Everton (h)
Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Alexander-Arnold is the most transferred in defender this week (at the time of writing) and with good reason given Liverpool have a favourable home fixture against Ipswich followed by a double gameweek.
The right-back has produced big double-digit hauls in his last four appearances and has created more big chances (12) than any other defender this term.
He should feel well rested too after only playing the final four minutes plus added time of Tuesday’s Champions League encounter with Lille.
Price: £7.2m Points: 96 Gameweek 23 fixture: Ipswich (h)
Gabriel (Arsenal)
FPL managers appear to be losing faith in Arsenal’s backline, so much so that, at the time of writing, David Raya is this week’s most-sold goalkeeper and Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba the two most-sold defenders.
Swapping out Raya for a cheaper keeper and removing the injured Saliba for an available alternative make sense; losing Gabriel is much harder to comprehend.
The Brazilian is the fifth in FPL’s defensive leaderboard and looks like scoring every time he ventures forward for a corner. Arsenal’s next opponents Wolves have conceded from 17 set-pieces this season, at least five more than any other team.
Price: £6.4m Points: 85 Gameweek 23 fixture: Wolves (a)
Lewis Hall (Newcastle)
Newcastle suffered a heavy defeat last time out, but Lewis Hall still managed to come away from it with a decent return.
The left-back got the assist for Bruno Guimaraes’s goal with a corner during the thrashing against Bournemouth, and fortunately for FPL bosses was subbed off before the Cherries ran riot late on.
Hall’s set-piece quality could come to the fore again this weekend. Southampton have conceded 12 goals from such situations already this season, a total that only Wolves can top.
Price: £5.1m Points: 89 Gameweek 23 fixture: Southampton (a)
Midfielders
Mo Salah (Liverpool)
Salah has endured a lean spell by his standards, going two league games without registering either a goal or an assist.
While Salah’s lack of points recently is frustrating – especially if you’ve captained him in either or both matches – his underlying data remains strong.
Over the past two gameweeks, Salah ranks joint-top among all players in FPL for chances created (with 11) and second for shots (with nine). Don’t overthink it, he is the standout captaincy contender.
Price: £13.7m Points: 214 Gameweek 23 fixture: Ipswich (h)
Phil Foden (Man City)
Phil Foden has been in lethal form lately, scoring six goals and supplying two assists in his last six league appearances. He has accumulated more FPL points (59) than any other player since Gameweek 17.

City have a tough upcoming schedule with games against the five other sides in the top six and bogey team Spurs in their next six.
However, Foden is full of confidence and has the ability to score against anyone. Despite being a popular transfer this week he is still owned by less than 10 per cent of the game.
Price: £9.3m Points: 80 Gameweek 23 fixture: Chelsea (h)
Leandro Trossard (Arsenal)
If you’re on the lookout for an in-form midfielder with low ownership and a high upside, Leandro Trossard should feature prominently on your watchlist.
The Belgian is currently selected by just over two per cent of FPL managers despite producing nine and 10-point scores in his last two matches.
He was rested for Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb in midweek but still managed to provide an assist off the bench.
Trossard will be confident of continuing his good run against a Wolves side that has conceded more goals than any other Premier League team this season.
Price: £6.8m Points: 80 Gameweek 23 fixture: Wolves (a)
Youri Tielemans (Aston Villa)
Morgan Rogers has been the budget-friendly Aston Villa midfielder of choice in FPL and with good reason considering he has contributed six goals and five assists so far.
However, he was overshadowed by Youri Tielemans at the Emirates last weekend with the Belgian impressing in the No 10 position that Rogers has generally been occupying.
Tielemans scored and hit the post in that game and constantly looked to thread through balls behind the defence for Ollie Watkins to chase after. He has started five of Villa’s last six league games in an advanced role and with an ownership of just one per cent he could be a savvy pick-up.
Price: £5.5m Points: 63 Gameweek 23 fixture: West Ham (h)
Forwards
Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
Bournemouth completely nullified Alexander Isak last weekend by limiting the free-scoring Swede to just 0.06 expected goals, his lowest xG tally in 90 minutes since Gameweek 1.
The Cherries are a much more formidable opponent than Southampton, though, and Isak will be determined to rejoin the goalscoring trail against a side that has conceded 50 goals already.
No forward has scored as many away goals this season as Isak (eight, level with Erling Haaland).
Price: £9.5m Points: 137 Gameweek 22 fixture: Southampton (a)
Jean-Phillipe Mateta (Crystal Palace)
It has taken a while for Jean-Philippe Mateta to get into his groove this season after representing France at the Olympics last summer but he is well and truly back among the goals now.
The Frenchman netted twice during Crystal Palace’s win against West Ham last weekend to extend his scoring streak to three games. Half of his eight league goals for the campaign have been scored since Gameweek 20.
Palace themselves have been on a good run, losing just one of their last 11 league games and they have strong fixtures right up until Gameweek 29.
Price: £7.3m Points: 88 Gameweek 22 fixture: Brentford (h)
Richarlison (Spurs)
There is taking a punt, and then there is buying an injury-prone forward with one goal to their name all season…

To suggest that Richarlison is flying under the radar in FPL would be to claim he has even left the ground in the first place. He is currently the 25th most-bought forward ahead of Saturday’s deadline, even behind injured teammate Dominic Solanke.
Call us crazy but we think there’s potential there, albeit in the short term. Richarlison scored as a sub at Everton last weekend, should start in Solanke’s absence and faces a Leicester defence that has conceded 21 goals in nine games under Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Price: £6.8m Points: 13 Gameweek 22 fixture: Leicester (h)
