Staff working at a chain of electrical stores in Devon and Cornwall might be feeling slightly apprehensive ahead of Wednesday’s England match – but not just over how the squad will fare against Croatia.
HBH Woolacotts has promised to refund any customers who bought an OLED TV between 1 May and 17 June their full purchase price if England win the World Cup.
Chris Hemmerle, company director, could have to shell out nearly £250,000 if football does indeed come home, according to the BBC.
130 TV sold
If England beat Croatia, Mr Hemmerle will be one step closer to having to pay back the money made on the sales of 130 TVs across the retailer’s nine stores.
Purchase an OLED TV from HBH Woolacotts before midnight this Sunday night (17th June) and you could be refunded your purchase price if the England team win this Summer's big football tournament in Russia! https://t.co/LltEkxjB5i

Mr Hemmerle said he was a “little bit nervous” but that he was “really hoping we will go all the way as it may never happen again in my lifetime”.
He told the BBC he didn’t think customers believed the promotion was real. “If they knew what they know now we would have sold a few more,” he added.
‘Big football fans’
The promotion has received a mixed reaction from the public. One person, commenting on HBH Woolacotts’ Facebook page, said: “Blimey bet they [are] getting worried now!”
But the store replied: “Not at all – we’re big football fans, so we’re really rooting for England. And what could be better to help celebrate an England win than to treat all those lovely eligible customers to a refund on their OLED TV purchase? COME ON ENGLAND!”
Another person commented: “My husband said he has more chance of becoming Miss World. The only people winning here is your firm.”
