It all started with such hope, after Kieran Tripper put England 1-0 up against Croatia in the World Cup semi-final.
Barely five minutes into the game and Luka Modric brought down Dele Alli on the edge of the penalty area and England took an early lead.
It seemed like it was meant to be. After all, the psychic pig said so.

But the Three Lions struggled to dominate for much of the game, with Croatia in possession most of the time. They scored an hour in, and finally netted the winning second goal in extra time.
England fans went from the highs of an early lead to the crushing reality that it’s not coming home for another four years.
Hyde Park erupted in elation, and beer, after England’s goal.

Why does time in football game pass so quickly when you’re losing, yet so slowly when you’re winning. Agony.

Until, eventually, hope was given up.

Just look @GarethSouthgate : hugging and kissing every one of his players and staff; individually congratulating all of his opponents (whilst aceing a waistcoat). What a man. What an example of C21st masculinity. #WorldCup #EngCro
